Initially, screenwriters carefully think through the image of each character down to the smallest detail. If we are talking about the classic confrontation between positive and negative heroes, then the contrast between them should be especially visible.
That is why the history, appearance and replicas of villains are written so carefully. But this is what concerns the text in the script. In practice, the place has many factors: the work of make-up artists and stylists, the game and the appearance of the actor himself, etc.
We present 10 films where the main villains turned out really ridiculous, disappointing their fans.
List
- 10. Dominic Green, Quantum of Solace | 2008
- 9. Poison Ivy, "Batman and Robin" | 1997
- 8. Mr. Frieze, “Batman and Robin” | 1997
- 7. Candyman, Candyman | 1992
- 6. Lex Luthor, “Superman Returns” | 2006
- 5. Captain Salazar, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” | 2017
- 4. Stoddard, The Spartan | 2004
- 3. Alan Feinstone, Dentist | 1996
- 2. Victoria Leeds, “Rescue Malibu” | 2017
- 1. Katherine Trammel, “Basic Instinct 2: Thirst for Risk” | 2006
10. Dominic Green, Quantum of Solace | 2008
The image of the villain turned out so stupid and implausible that many viewers did not even remember the character at all.
In the era of Bondiana, there were various negative heroes: romantics, calculating cynics, insane megalomaniac, etc.
It was at least somehow interesting to the viewer, in contrast to the faceless and unemotional Dominic Green. The scriptwriters did not even work the death of the villain - it happened as if behind the scenes without epic moans, explosions, collapse of structures, the unusual use of improvised props, etc.
9. Poison Ivy, "Batman and Robin" | 1997
The picture itself did not turn out very well: there was not enough action, or an interesting story, or memorable characters. Uma Thurman, who played the villain Poison Ivy, tried to save the situation as best she could.
As a result, her role turned out to be very funny and, of course, a little sexy. The very idea of the ability to control men with the help of pheromones is very funny.
And if you look at the ridiculous synthetic costume of the character and the vulgar cheap makeup, you get a comedy, not an adventure superhero movie.
8. Mr. Frieze, “Batman and Robin” | 1997
And again the same picture, full of ridiculous characters. Now consider the second terrible villain - Mr. Freeze performed by Schwarzenegger. Who even thought of inviting Mr. Terminator to this ridiculous and inadequate role.
Just imagine that a brutal German had to play the organ, sing in a choir, start tame penguins and gather an army in fur coats. You think it's about some very funny comedy? So no, this is the whole environment that surrounded Schwarz-Frieze.
And if you recall the legend of the character, you can generally come out with laughter. Mr. Frieze inadvertently spilled cryogenic agents on himself while trying to find a cure for his sick wife. Well, just wonder how fantastic the scriptwriters can have!
7. Candyman, Candyman | 1992
The villain from the movie of the same name is another image that "will not fit my head."
In a parallel world, a strange maniac lives, who injures his victims with a hook prosthesis instead of a hand. In order to summon the feisty Candyman, you must stand in front of the mirror and call him up 5 times in a row.
History is sucked from a finger - who will deal with such nonsense in life? However, the Americans bought the picture, so she managed to get a few fans.
6. Lex Luthor, “Superman Returns” | 2006
Several actors played Luthor, but it was in this picture that the villain turned out to be especially ridiculous. Actor Spacey got into the role extremely unsuccessfully, portraying the sad side of the villain, playing a fierce hatred of Superman.
The luthor in his performance operated with calculating intelligence and cold reason, which turned out to be an unnatural and unnatural act for the actor. Of course, the goal was achieved to some extent, since Luthor appeared to be the complete antipode of the good character.
5. Captain Salazar, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” | 2017
In the epic of pirates, we observed a variety of negative characters, including insidious, charming, cunning and calculating. We saw Becket and Sparrow, who violated the laws, but remained amusing adventurers, interesting to the viewer.
Captain Salazar, on the other hand, appeared as an “honest policeman,” who is forced to bear the burden of his atrocities by clearing the sea of pirates. Isn't Salazar doing a good deed?
Sooner or later, you begin to sympathize with him and even to some extent desire a fair victory. Agree, strange emotions in relation to the villain.
4. Stoddard, The Spartan | 2004
The main villain was played by the talented drama actor Macy. Previously, Will has already appeared as a villain in the movie "Fargo", and he succeeded.
David Mammet invited the actor to play the villainous role in the thriller Spartan, handing him firearms and rewarding him with the role of a fearless operative.
But no matter how Macy was brandishing a menacing pistol and not raising his eyebrows in anger, the role of the villain did not work out for him. In the main fight of the film against Kilmer, he looked, to put it mildly, ridiculous.
3. Alan Feinstone, Dentist | 1996
Fear of dentists has haunted us since childhood. One has only to remember the buzzing drill, a terrible doctor in a mask and a tooth on a napkin with leftover blood.
The director of the film "Dentist" decided to prosper on children's fear by shooting a picture about a bloodthirsty killer dentist with schizophrenia.
Despite the terrible sadistic experiments, many viewers "spit" on the role of the main villain. The actor himself looks so disgusting and ridiculous that you do not want to revise the film at all.
2. Victoria Leeds, “Rescue Malibu” | 2017
Priyanka Chopra as a villain is something ridiculous. How can such a beauty cause feelings of rejection and righteous anger?
Priyanka is good in the role of a romantic and feminine heroine, but the proxy woman from the criminal group she clearly failed.
And the authors of the script did not fully work out her image, mixing the cunning plans of the heroine with her obvious sexual attractiveness.
1. Katherine Trammel, “Basic Instinct 2: Thirst for Risk” | 2006
And again, they try to make an insidious murderer from a sexy woman. During the recession of her career, Sharon Stone again ventured to return to the image of Katherine Trammel from Basic Instinct.
Only in the second part, a mature woman was unable to recreate the reverent and sexual image of the young writer, nor how to play a negative character.
Even the most bloodthirsty and merciless villains on the screen can suddenly look completely stupid, wretched and listless. Instead of instilling fear in the viewer, some negative characters caused a smile or sincere laughter.
