10. The Master and Margarita, Vladimir Bortko | 2005
When Vladimir Bortko announced his decision to shoot a series based on Bulgakov’s novel “The Master and Margarita,” admirers of the writer began to look forward to the premiere.
In the past, there have been many unsuccessful attempts to film adaptations, none of them have been successful. Vladimir Bortko managed to do the impossible.
According to the plot, Satan arrives in Moscow with his retinue. They are interested in a new society, which is built without the influence of religion, Satan needs new people.
The series "Master and Margarita" was called the event of the year. By the way, the director tried to ensure that what is happening on the screen is strictly consistent with the content of the novel. There are no conjectures of scriptwriters or additions from the creators. Perhaps, thanks to this, “Master and Margarita” was so loved by viewers.
9. The Brothers Karamazov, Yuri Moroz | 2008
The director tried to reproduce on the screen the great novel of Dostoevsky. The action takes place in a small county town. The plot is based on the story of the Karamazov family.
The relationship between Fedor and his sons is rather complicated. Each of them looks at what is happening from their point of view. Each hero is Dostoevsky’s reflection on morality, freedom, religion.
Could the creators of the series fit in a limited timekeeping this ingenious work? Each viewer has his own opinion on this, but the film adaptation can rightly be called a qualitative reflection of the original.
8. The White Guard, Sergei Snezhkin | 2012
A film adaptation of the novel by Mikhail Bulgakov. The Civil War, the Turbin family is in the midst of political and military events. The personal dramas of the characters are intertwined with the tragedy taking place in the country.
Many fans of Bulgakov's work were disappointed with the film adaptation of Snezhkin. They accused the creators of some inconsistency with the literary source, as well as the invention of additional characters.
However, do not forget that the series was shot "based on" the novel. It is difficult enough to film a classic work, but the director was able to recreate that atmosphere, the feeling of loss of the main characters, their emotional throwing. Of course, this is not exactly Bulgakov’s vision of events, yet the series does not get worse from this.
7. “Hero of our time”, Alexander Kott | 2006
Screen adaptation of the work of Lermontov. The plot is based on the story of a young officer Grigory Pechorin. He is sent to exile in the Caucasus. There he becomes a participant in various events.
This series did not cause much public hype. Perhaps the reason was the lack of a major advertising campaign. Again lovers of the classics talked a lot about the discrepancy.
"The hero of our time" - a good adaptation. The images of the main characters and the character of Pechorin are fully disclosed. The painting will also delight you with excellent musical accompaniment and magnificent landscapes.
6. “Demons”, Vladimir Khotinenko | 2014
A film adaptation of the work of Dostoevsky, and far from the only one. In addition to the series Khotinenko, there are several more adaptations.
Investigator Goremykin is sent to the provincial city to investigate crimes. Here is a series of killings. As a result of the investigation, the investigator finds out that the killers are members of the revolutionary movement.
Not all the events taking place in the film correspond to the work of Dostoevsky, but the creators were able to convey its atmosphere very accurately. The series is worth watching at least because of the excellent cast, the actors managed to reveal the images of the main characters.
The only thing that raises the question is the ending of the series. Apparently, the director Khotinenko sees her this way, and this is his right.
5. The Quiet Don, Sergey Ursulyak | 2015
Screen version of the novel Sholokhov. 1912 year, the village. Cossacks live on this land for a long time. They are so accustomed to a quiet life that the revolution takes them by surprise. Cossacks do not know how to live on. The war begins between people who were brothers, fathers, friends just yesterday.
Against the background of these events, the personal drama of the Cossack Grigory Melekhov is shown. He cannot understand who is right: red or white?
The series was a success. The creators were able to convey those terrible events that took place in the country so that the viewer forgets everything, feels himself a participant in what is happening.
He sympathizes with the protagonists, experiences their emotions. Viewers who have not read the novel admit that after watching the series, there is a desire to read it.
4. "Doctor Zhivago", Alexander Proshkin | 2005
A film adaptation of Pasternak's novel. The beginning of the last century. In this difficult time, Yuri Zhivago, a little boy is left alone. Father left the family, mother died. He is growing up, getting an education. The Civil War begins, a terrible time. Ahead of World War II.
And again, only those who will not look for the complete resemblance to a literary work will enjoy watching the series.
The film adaptation is commendable. The subject of the tragic fate of man under the influence of the era, political events of military operations is fully disclosed.
Critics call the series "a separate work of art." Indeed, the viewer gets a unique opportunity to see the history of his country, albeit with the example of one person.
3. The Idiot, Vladimir Bortko | 2008
The series is based on the novel by Dostoevsky. The story of Prince Lev Myshkin. He spent some time in Switzerland, where he was treated for a mental illness.
The prince arrives in St. Petersburg and stops with his relative. Soon Lev Myshkin gets acquainted with her family, he becomes a member of all the passions and intrigues that occur in their lives.
The series is called the best work of Vladimir Bortko. He has received many awards and the love of millions of viewers. The plot of the series coincides with the plot of the novel.
Most of the replicas and dialogs are preserved in their original form. The director did not redo anything and add “on his own”. Due to this, the series only won. It is impossible not to note the excellent play of the actors, they coped well with their roles.
2. “Fathers and Sons”, Avdotya Smirnova | 2008
Screen adaptation of the novel of the same name by Turgenev. Arkady Kirsanov and Evgeny Bazarov are friends. They argue very often, because in many ways their views do not coincide.
Kirsanov believes that adults are more experienced, so he listens to the opinion of his father. His friend, on the contrary, thinks that life has changed, and you should not pay attention to the words of the elderly. But perhaps life will make him think differently.
Nice movie adaptation. The theme of the novel is disclosed, there are no discrepancies with the text. It is also worth noting a wonderful acting game, beautiful costumes and scenery.
1. “Crime and Punishment”, Dmitry Svetozarov | 2007
Another film adaptation of Dostoevsky. The plot is fully consistent with the events taking place in the novel. A young student commits murder. Its victims are the old woman-interest-bearer and her sister.
He steals valuable things, he just can not use them. He is constantly tormented by the question: did he have the right to do this? Rodion does not cope with psychological oppression, because he constantly thinks about this murder. Soon Raskolnikov admits that he committed the crime.
The creators of the series managed to convey the atmosphere of hopeless St. Petersburg, show the emotional throwing of the main characters. The viewer will surely enjoy viewing, and even fans of Dostoevsky will be delighted.
